Howard Fisher

Howard Fisher is an Associate Professor of Mass Communication. He teaches classes in audio/video production, journalism, gender studies, mythology, and storytelling. He earned his Ph.D. from Ohio University and has taught adjunct and/or graduate classes at the University of Minnesota at Moorhead, Texas Tech University, and Ohio University before teaching full time at The University of Scranton. His research interests include credibility of journalism sources, mythological elements in storytelling, and gender representation in media and videogames.

 

He is also an author who writes under the name H. Dean Fisher. His novels are mythological tales that explore themes of feminism, religious oppression of minorities, and the redemptive power of love and acceptance. His most recent novel, “Medusa: Rise of a Goddess,” is a feminist reimagining of the Medusa character from Greek mythology. The novel was a quarter-finalist in 2022 for The BookLife Prize and a 2023 Editor’s Choice in the Publisher’s Weekly BookLife section for independent authors.
