Practice Makes Perfect: Preparing the Next Generation for the Skills Economy (and Life)

Michelle Conway is Instructor of Entrepreneurship and Management from Misericordia University

As we navigate through an era characterized by rapid technological advancements and shifting economic paradigms, the landscape of career readiness is undergoing a transformative change. In this evolving skills-based economy, traditional pathways to success are being redefined, placing a premium on adaptable, resilient, and self-aware individuals. This presentation, Practice Makes Perfect: Preparing the Next Generation for the Skills Economy, aims to explore strategies for fostering what Conway deems to be the most critical underlying career-readiness competency: self-awareness.

Self-awareness, the cornerstone of personal and professional development, empowers individuals to recognize their strengths, identify areas for growth, and align their skills with the demands of the modern workforce. Drawing upon frameworks such as the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) competencies and the TecBRIDGE Youth Entrepreneurship Credentialing (YEC) Program, this presentation emphasizes the importance of introducing foundational skills to young learners and future leaders.

Practice makes perfect.
